Venting again: Doug Ford Pt.2
I'm over the rage now. I've decided that this is a chance for me to step up and do a better job and be a more active part of raising my daughter.
That isn't to say I'm calling this a good thing. What my daughter wants (and likely needs at this age) is to socialise. That has still been taken from her.
What has changed is an acceptance that even though Ford is wilfully neglecting children and their mental health is that it has occurred to me that timing is really everything and we could have ended up in this situation much more legitimately.
But, I didn't want to write this to be wishy-washy and all accepting. The rage may be gone. But not the anger in general.
In the same F***ING CONFERENCE where he "claimed" that not opening schools was to reduce the risk and ensure a more normal summer and return to school in fall, he then says he seeking advice (from the very who told him to prioritise reopening schools) on moving the re-opening of everything else ahead.
THAT'S RIGHT! All of that shit which is basically proven to be much more likely to result in much larger increases in cases and transmission. All of that. That is what he wants to accelerate.
We're not talking about ANYTHING being in jeopardy here. We're talking about accelerating the riskiest part of the whole damn strategy.
I maintain the obvious argument; he could have reopened schools and simply stuck to his original plan and it would pose less of a risk to our children's summer and safe return to school than pushing phase 1 ahead by a week or more.
I hope he gets sued into oblivion over this. This is MUCH more grossly negligent than cases being won around the world where governments are being sued and losing to children on topics like climate change. Doug Ford has publicly ignored his own top official on the topic, the community he arranged to advise and many of the largest unions and groups on the matter which includes the foremost experts on the topic.
While I don't doubt that there are experts who agree with Ford, it IS clear he needed to go shopping for an answer that agreed with his plans. And his explanation does not come near enough to justifying the outcome. And his actions are not to preserve safety, but so that he can accelerate appeasing a totally different group; the one which can vote.
