Just let Levar Burton Guest Jeopardy Already!
File this under strange incidents.
I get that Aaron Rodgers has been doing incredibly well as a guest host for Jeopardy! but there is still one fairly major problem; he has another career and he hasn't really indicated any desire to leave it. Even if there is theoretically time to do both I think that is a fairly major undertaking. Especially considering the risks associated with his other occupation.
If no one else worthwhile comes out of the works at the end, I certainly wouldn't begrudge the producers choosing Rodgers as the permanent host. But, it almost seems like they are aiming for failure. Like they've already secretly selected a replacement or they are intentionally sabotaging their chances and simply got lucky with the likes of Rodgers.
Maybe they were trying to make Ken Jennings look better? I don't know.
But, since they started this fiasco I'm baffled as to the omission of Levar Burton. Not only has he made his interest public, but he has garnered a lot of support online and he truly does make an excellent candidate on paper. And, what shocks me more was to learn that he had already been in talks years back for the role. I guess Trebek was considering retiring, and it simply didn't materialize at the time.
Since they had a celebrity who had expressed interest and has a decorated career which revolves around education and is currently expressing interest. It is nothing short of maddening that he hasn't even been given the chance to run as a guest host. I mean, given what I know now, it wouldn't have been odd for the Jeopardy! execs to have simply offered Levar the job before this whole trial by public started.
As we've seen already, there is no guarantee that even Mr. Burton would do a great job as host. It certainly seems a challenging role to fill. But, it simply seems strange that he hasn't even been offered the chance to try.
I also wouldn't be offended to see Ken Jennings be offered the role.
So, to sum this up; I really have no issues with Aaron Rodgers. And I wouldn't be surprised if he or Ken Jennings receive the right to continue hosting. But, I likewise cannot fathom why Levar Burton has not even been given the chance to participate in this guest hosting process.
