Still at it.

I'm at a hard point to describe. I'm still far from fluent. I feel like I'm improving. And improving noticeably. But, it is increasingly hard to define how I'm improving.

Started on 弱虫ペダル volume 1, and I'm already half way through it. In one day. This wouldn't necessarily be super surprising. But, I'm not all that engaged in it and on top of that I'm finding it quite challenging. In the sense that there are a lot of new words. And, further to those things, at this level in my learning, I'm getting increasingly interested in the finer details of what is going on.

In short, it is like a less annoying version of the squid girl manga. And I don't think I ever got through half a volume of that so effortlessly. Especially not the early volumes where you're being bombarded with terminology specific to either that manga or the particular theme it is about.

I'm also getting a lot more confident in my reading skills. To the point where I may cancel my box of manga subscription soon. It isn't that I don't like the service. As I said in the past; I find it quite good at delivering somewhat level appropriate, native language reading materials which are typically fun.

But, as my confidence in reading in Japanese is growing, I'm outpacing what the service is delivering. Going up to the top level in the subscription may provide a challenge again. But, it also puts me in an odd situation. When I started this, my biggest concern was getting a bunch of manga or other reading materials which were too difficult and ultimately ruined my motivation.

If I'm feeling confident enough to go up to the most challenging level of this subscription service however... then I can probably just go find manga based on anime I like as a starting point and not have to worry too more about the reading level. I could also potentially pull in things like the Shield Hero light novels.

The one thing holding me to BoM, is the fact that it is pre-scheduled and someone else does the work for me. I need to find a resource or two I can trust to get materials and make a few smaller purchases to see if it all works out. Until I know I can keep on top of growing the collection and exposure without that regular scheduled shipment I don't know if I will drop it. But I am thinking about it.
