Google Stadia Thoughts

With the recent announcement and updates coming along the pre-orders opening up, I was thinking about some of the critical comments. This is just an early set of thoughts. But, the primary argument is that the latency is about double what desktop users deal with, and whether or not that is acceptable.

The simple answer I think is generally yes. There will be a group of people for whom this isn't good enough. But, it is likely good enough for the vast majority.

And, I think it also misses the point. I think this is getting ahead of the curve. Google doesn't want to wait until the latency is up where it needs to be. Play Station already has such a service and Microsoft is working on something too. Even if the tech isn't perfect. If Google waits for it to get there, they will be too far behind.

In short, there are already big names with a lead on Google here. If they are interested in getting into this market, they can't let themselves get further behind. They need to get in early enough to get good deals with publishers. Right now, the edge they have over the competition is that their service will be the most portable, and it is backed by a big name.

When the technology catches up, they may be the best situated to take over the market.
