Language Journal: May 1st 2019
I'm thinking these posts may get a bit more frequent. I found chronicling the Kanji I'm working through gives me a bit more time to focus on them. I don't want to do it every day. But, maybe an update every few days.
In addition, there is another reason I'm really enjoying writing out the Kanji; Recognition skills.
The second I started writing out the kanji I started noticing and remember nuances about the strokes in certain kanji. And, shortly after that I watched a YouTube video where a Japanese guy looked at some amusing Japanese tattoos on foreigners and I was able to recognize all of them.
But, prior to that, seeing random kanji out in the wild almost always threw me for a loop. I'm only used to seeing them in clean computer generated fonts. And it has become clear that my brain relies on that too much. So, while I'm writing them out, I'm NOT focused on making them look neat and perfect. I'm focused on making them look natural and balanced.
I am a foreigner though, and I'm not taking too much artistic liberty here, so they are a lot cleaner than what I've actually seen from natives. But, not confining myself to perfect reproductions is expanding my ability to recognize them. As, of course, is the simply the act of learning to write them and focus more on their individual components.
Without further ado:
水曜日の間違い漢字は:
I missed more cards than this, but the others were either new or less mature. Today is another day where I probably could have improved simply by being more focused. 我慢 I definitely could have gotten. And I feel like 各国 also didn't need to be on the list if I just spent more time. In short, I could have cut the list down by a 3rd. While the rest I probably wouldn't have struggled with if I had been more vigilant in my initial studies.

水曜日の間違い漢字は:
- 深刻ーしんこくー Serious, grave
- When reading, I misread the first Kanji as し instead of しん
- This is a very mature word in my decks. And I've probably been getting this wrong and letting myself slide on it for some time. But, this isn't even the only word I've encountered with that Kanji and reading.
- 我慢ーがまんー Patience
- I knew how to read it, but assigned the wrong meaning. Really, I probably knew this one if I just slowed down and thought more about the sentence.
- 各国ーかっこくー Each country
- Another one got the wrong meaning on. I mistook it for "various countries". It was an audio card I believe, but I also suspect I would have pronounced it wrong, as かこく even if I got near correct. So it was a good addition.
- 屋上ーおくじょうー Rooftop
- Couldn't for the life of me guess the reading of the first Kanji here.
- 週刊誌ーしゅうかんしー Weekly edition
- Wasn't sure on the reading of either of the last two Kanji. Some of my guesses had the second Kanji right. But, I didn't really know it when reading.
- 派遣ーはけんー Dispatch
- This was another one where I didn't know the second Kanji.
