I feel like the title of the post should be: Me vs. a mountain of manga.
In all honesty, there isn't AS much as I make it sound. But, as I already griped about, it is all hard stuff left. And, seriously, I'm demolishing it. Though, not without taking short cuts. But the short cuts are acceptable in my opinion.
As I mentioned before I had 3 volumes of 僕だけがいない街 which is just a mind rape of Japanese legal terms coming out of the mouth of a narrator who is supposed to be, and on occasion talks like, a much older character, thusly increasing the level of difficulty.
Oh and side note. Watched ep 5 of "The Rise of the Shield Hero" and bust a gut laughing when they cast a spell call "Earth Hole" and attempted to say its name in English. Only to have it coming out as something MUCH closer to "A** Hole". That was gold.
Detour over. I'm finally onto volume 5, and I'm more or less at the end of the 2 week mark. Which means, if I only had 4 volumes to read I'd be ahead of schedule. But, I have an book to deal with before the next box. And, as I said, I'm also kind of slacking.
Given that the level of the books is more difficult, and a lot of vocab isn't exactly run of the mill Japanese, in some cases I'm not even stopping if I simply feel I have a reasonable guess about what is going in general. If I hit a word or piece of grammar I don't know, and I've seen it outside these books I'll still stop and look it up. And I'll even look up words which pop up twice in close proximity or which have popped up enough that I know I've seen it before multiple times.
The short of it is; I'm reading to get through with a side goal of actually enjoying it. And, while I may be behind, I will say that I feel it is working. To dedicate more time to work I'm doing my flashcards in the evening now, and spending time with my daughter when she's interested and spending time with my wife after that, which tends to leave a rather non-existent chunk of time left for Japanese. So, given that I still haven't missed a day of Anki cards AND I've gotten through 2 full volumes of high-ish level Manga, I'd say I'm rocking it pretty well.
Well, time to consider taking this up another level. By which I mean, taking the laptop and plugging it in upstairs and maybe sleeping.
