Language Journal: January 16th 2018

I'm at a lull in my learning. I'm not feeling bad about it or anything. I'm just not feeling crazy motivated at the current moment. I think it is because I'm preoccupied with my Smart Home projects. I'm still rolling along doing my Anki cards every day. But, I have 2.5 volumes of Manga unread and another box coming in a week, give or take a few days.

Needless to say, as I write this, I feel like I'm falling behind in that respect. And I think it may partly be an aversion. The first book I read from the last box was not at all that great and when I hit problem words it was not as fun as it has been in books I've enjoyed. And there is a second volume for that series in the box I got.

I also got the next volume of Orange, and when I sit down and read it, I'm getting through it quite quickly. The final book from the last box is even more intimidating than the others, it is Erased volume 3. Erased has been one of the most challenging. It appears to be aimed at an older audience AND it uses a LOT of uncommon vocabulary.

In short, I have one book which is in my comfort zone. Once I'm done that though, I have 1 book I can probably get through easily, but it is a bit of a motivation killer and then the other I see as being quite challenging. I also had a contracted amount of time to finish them in thanks to the postal strike.

On the Anki cards, I'm mostly coasting, with maybe little gains in terms of vocab, kanji identification and pronunciation. I definitely feel that I'm making progress, I just also know that it isn't as good as it could be.
