It wasn't altered, it was sped up...

This is (for now) the greatest statement in the history of politics.

Speeding up footage IS altering it. Selectively speeding it up even more so. Selectively speeding it up to alter the perception of the contents is doctoring footage. Saying that they do it in sports is insane. It isn't a defense. At all.

That's like saying, "we didn't murder him, we simply shot him and he died. It happens in war all the time".

The fact that it happens in another context regularly, even if it is acceptable there doesn't mean it applies the same in the current matter. But... on that;

It is STILL hilariously wrong. The ONLY time I've seen footage sped UP in sports, is in BLOOPERS. When sports footage is ALTERED in regards to speed, it is usually to slow it down. And it is slowed down to help verify events. Like where the puck went, who touched the football first, etc.. And the slowing is either done to such an extreme that it is obvious, and/or it is usually explicitly called something to the effect of "slow motion replay".

The video of Acosta was not slowed down. It was not made obvious that it had been sped up. It was not obvious from viewing the footage that the speed had been altered. The speed had not been altered to make events clearer.

The speed had, in fact, been altered to adjust the perception of the act in question. The video existed for a sole reason. To make you believe in a lie.

It was fake news.

And, since the only consistent and vocal accusation leveled against the video had been that the speed had been altered, if the feeling on the topic really was that this is perfectly normal, then it should have been addressed immediately. Not days later.

And, the only reasonable conclusion to that is that they feel they are too deep in their own BS to own up to it.

I'm not saying that they intentionally lied. The video isn't even official White House video. It is possible that it was posted by someone unaware that it had been altered. What IS clear, is that they NOW know it was doctored. And instead of apologizing for posting altered, clearly misleading video they are instead spewing more BS.

What is most disturbing is... they KNOW the people complaining won't buy it. And they KNOW that those who were defending the video will gobble it up.

This is politics designed to divide. There is nothing to gain defending this video. There are tons of ways out that on paper look better. This is the way out that emboldens their base.

If they admit to wrong doing, then they admit that their supporters who defended the video were wrong. When your team tells you that you're wrong, it becomes a lot harder to justify staying with them. When they give you a lie you can shout in solidarity you'll defend your earlier position to the bitter end.
