Language Journal: August 26th 2018
YAY! I managed a day without a post. Though, it was a weekend, and I rarely post on weekends. So, I guess, in some ways, that makes the fact that I'm posting today even sadder, because, still the weekend.
Anyway, 僕だけがいない街 is kicking my butt. オレンジ was a cake walk.
I'm not sure if this will ruin my plans or not. This is my first box. So, it is really hard to say what will happen or how fast I will progress. In fairness to me, there is apparently a LOT of JLPT N1 vocab in this book. And that represents an area where I don't think my casual studies have taken me yet.
Considering THAT, I think I'm actually getting through the book at an OK pace. But, I have adjusted my expectations and standards many times along the way.
My current MO for books as difficult as this is to simply get through it first. If I can get through all 4 books before the next box arrives, I'll start re-reading and seeing what sticks. I may also start taking noted and try to formulate things I should be focusing on based on that.
It does, of course, depend upon me getting through all of the manga BEFORE the next box arrives. Though, I will say, it isn't looking impossible. While my pace on the current book may suck, I'm about 1/5 of the way through it. It hasn't even been 1 week yet, and I'm done my first book and into my second. By the time Tuesday or whatever day marks a week from when I got the manga, I should be more like half way through.
Also, I'll be bringing some of my manga with me on a business trip I have next week. Multi-hour flights and nights alone in a hotel room. I'm thinking I could get some pretty intense learning done in those circumstances.
But yeah, my standards are out the window. I'm focusing on volume over quality now. I feel that I need to get through the manga to stay on the bandwagon. So, I don't really feel super bad about it. Reality is simple, the only crutch in these books is the Furigana. There is no English translation to help. If I'm getting through the books at all, then repetition is totally unlike the Anime problem. I should progress.
