Annnnnnd I'm back on Linux Mint.
I don't want to whine any more.
Long story short, much as I enjoyed the Budgie desktop environment, Ubuntu Budgie had a number of things which just didn't work right, despite the fact that I finally convinced myself to avoid tinkering. Including the software management tool. Not sure how I/they managed to screw that one up.
Anyway, I "fixed" my biggest gripe with Mint by switching to Chrome which handles scrolling with the touchscreen as expected. I just have some horrendous screen tearing when I scroll too fast. Which isn't the end of the world. And Chrome seems to refuse to stay in sync, which isn't world ending either.
Aside from those two items, everything else just works.
It pays to be the most popular distro I guess. Seems to afford them the time to make sure hardware more or less works as expected.
Granted, as far as I know, Ubuntu proper didn't have any issues. I just hate the UI with a burning passion. It feels geared towards tablets, not computers.
While I'm sure a better Linux for my wants exists, I'm not putting too much more effort into finding it. I may use a few VirtualBox VMs and hope to find something else compelling. But no urgency. I have Mint setup more than sufficiently.
