Linux Quest
Well, I've gone and done it. I completely replaced Windows 10 with Kubuntu on my laptop. Granted, Windows 10 keys are keyed to the BIOS and I have another PC with which to create installation media, so it isn't like I've done anything incredibly drastic here. But, it is the first time (I think), that I've totally removed Windows from one of my primary machines.
My prior 17.04 Ubuntu distro didn't configure the WiFi properly. But, the 17.10 Kubuntu did.
I got WiFi working on Ubuntu. But, I was just piloting the OS on there in some excess space I had reclaimed from Windows 10. So, I decided to try a different variant when I fully wiped the drive. I like the looks of Kubuntu better, but the way Ubuntu treated the touchscreen was better. Also Kubuntu doesn't auto-rotate, which for a Yoga laptop is annoying.
Since I hate the looks of stock Ubuntu... I might wipe it try out Mint on this machine.
Since I primarily use it for web browsing I don't care too much.
I got openHAB up and running and configured enough to toy with it, but this isn't really the machine I want that running on. I'm just happy to have succeeded at it finally.
As I said before, I'm not really going anywhere crazy. I still have Windows 10 on my main computer. And that isn't changing.
But, it feels nostalgic to be running Linux on actual hardware again.
