Another reason why the PS4.5 is a mistake
Earlier I made on argument against the PS4.5 which is that being the first to make a move allows the competition to respond with a better device which would dethrone them as the top gaming hardware provider.
But honestly, that is probably the least of the problems.
Consoles are appealing to consumers because they tend to represent a promise of years of mainstream gaming. The last console generation lasted over half a decade. The current console generation isn't even half that age.
Releasing tangibly updated hardware this "soon" after the initial hardware release it a kick in the face to those who invested in the original.
Sure, for some time new games will support both. But those on the original will have a degraded performance compared to the new. And eventually game studios will simply stop targeting the prior hardware.
It should be insulting to Sony fans that company making their console outdated prematurely is the very one they supported.
I'm not going to make any predictions here. If I were they wouldn't back up what I just said. Right now Sony is the Apple of the console market. It seems plausible that fans would ignore the negatives and simply shell out more money and continue to proclaim superiority.
