OMG DAMAGE CONTROL!!!! APPLE IS GREAT!!!!! ALL PRAISE IPAD PRO!!!

Read a few more articles and specifically this one and the comments regarding people's thoughts on the iPad Pro. And it has brought literally EVERYTHING out of the wood works. It makes one feel like they need to do a 360 and praise Apple a bit to counter or to defend their stance. It is ridiculous.

Firstly, I agree. The iPad Pro is pointless. Will it outsell the Surface Pro? Not certain really, but still very possible. The Surface Pro is an established product that is in fact doing quite well in an otherwise ailing market. So it would be equally unsurprising to see it beat the iPad Pro despite the larger brand behind it. But, that is completely irrelevant. Sales success doesn't mean that a product is or isn't pointless.  It just means a lot of people bought it. It says nothing about who bought, how they used it and whether or not it offered any appreciable benefit in general or over other possible purchase options.

When I (or anyone else) criticize a device or service based on its utility or function, the conclusions drawn are not of such a nature that sales can affect them. Reality is not altered by sales numbers.

I said this early on. I think the iPad Pro will be profitable, but like the Apple Watch, I don't believe it will meet internal sales goals or be a widely adopted product. I also think that the success will be largely motivated by brand and not by the merits of the product. And it won't matter how many units the silly thing sells. It won't change my perception of the devices (lack of) utility and value. I can be monstrously wrong and I won't care. The predictions are just that and having them proved wrong doesn't change the conclusions made on the utility of the device.

In fact, that is the red herring. If your defense or condemnation of a product relies on sales numbers or something other than the faults or merits of the product on its own then your arguments have no substance.

I have by this point read a lot of comments in defense of the iPad Pro. And yet, have read none that actually refute any specifically identified fault mentioned. And that speaks volumes. They don't even try to defeat those points as being relevant let alone try to defeat points themselves.

I swear, one day I'll need to write a book on confirmation bias. Its not my belief that these people are knowingly or intentionally side stepping the real issues being presented. They are subconsciously ignoring or downplaying the things that disagree with their own views which they can't defend. It also drives us to attempt to leverage any argument which seems to agree with our views.

Looking at the comments in that light, the lack of comments that actually address specific arguments against the iPad Pro or the validity of them would imply that subconsciously they realize they can't refute them and instead latch onto the unrelated or incorrect in defense of their views.

Lastly, if you want to know how an inferior product becomes a financial success, re-read the last 2 paragraphs and think about it in light of branding.
