Cortana's weakness. The keyboard.

This one is weird.

One of the strong points Cortana has against Siri is the ability to work with a keyboard instead of voice. And, further more, when you interact with keyboard she will respond with onscreen text rather than voice.

But, where things fall apart is that some of the functionality simply doesn't work the same as with the keyboard. For instance, if I click on Cortana she suggested that I could ask a question like "Where was Obama born?". If I use a mic to ask the question, Cortana will speak back an answer and show it within the Cortana window. If I type the question I get a Bing search. In both cases, the text in the Cortana box are the same. The problem is that it makes the keyboard interface a second class citizen.

Another place I discovered a disparity is in launching apps. Basic commands like "Open Notepad" work. But commands for apps like "Open my trip to Spain in Trip Advisor" don't work.

The disparities are seemingly small, but they do impact the quality of the feature. I expect that if I'm on a desktop with no mic, or need to be quiet and cannot use voice on a machine with a mic that I can still get the same functionality with the same commands. I enjoy interacting with Cortana... and I like it more than a browser search in many cases but I hate talking to my computer.
