Windows 10 is bad for gamers?
This is new. Everyone is jumping on this bandwagon pretty quickly. But the answer is no, it is probably not bad for gamers. Disclaimer might be, sure you might want to wait a month or two if you don't want to deal with the headaches. But otherwise, this is unlikely to remain a thing for very long.
Firstly, the problem is that Windows 10 likes to automatically update your drivers to what it thinks are the latest, and NVidia hasn't been going through the standard channels. In other words, the latest NVidia drivers aren't on Windows Update.
Why isn't this a problem? Well, firstly, if there is some technical reason for this, Microsoft will fix it. But, much more likely, NVidia will simply start using the appropriate means of updating people once Windows 10 is officially launched. While I'm sure that they want users going through their website and seeing their ads on both the site and the installer, they don't want to lose revenue because people are getting crappy performance out of their cards.
And people need to keep in mind, that is really where the problem is. Not Windows, but NVidia. If the appropriate drivers were being published to Windows Update, there wouldn't be a problem. And the biggest reasons for not going through the appropriate channels (that I can see) are largely because they control the experience when you go through their website and use their installer. Now, it could be that they decided not to go this route for other reasons, and it could be that they are waiting for the actual launch to do this.
The general argument here is that... either Microsoft, NVidia or both will resolve this in short order. Microsoft needs all users getting the best experience possible and needs to quell the irrational fears around automatic updates and NVidia needs their hardware running as well as possible on the most widely used OS for that hardware. It is both companies best interests to deal with this. As a result, you can pretty guarantee that it will be dealt with.
