Proof that people will harp on anything!
This.
Why would Microsoft give away freebies to those who bought an Xbox One at $499? The Xbox One still costs $499. At least, for the same hardware that those who purchased it prior to the Kinect-less version. The $399 version is just that, it doesn't have a Kinect sensor. So, it isn't an apples to apples price drop.
IF Microsoft had dropped the price of the Kinect bundle as well then there might be some justification for how people felt. But even, then I don't know that there is any precedence for that. Consoles natural go down in price over time and people have never (to my knowledge) been compensated (except by retailers who guarantee against price drops, and again then only the exact same model) for having bought prior to the price drop.
The fact that someone would WASTE someone's time to write that article is infuriating. In fact, for those living in Canada, even bothering attacking MS on this must seem atrocious. Sony actually RAISED the price on their console since it launched here. It was $399 CAD when it came out, and now it is $449. Even though MS suffered the same circumstances that lead Sony to supposedly make this move (loss of value in CAD relative to USD) the Xbox One has retained its launch price here.
While the article doesn't reference the PS4, it seems like an attempt to sway people away from Microsoft. The only other similar incident they were able to cite was on Nintendo's handheld gaming system, even admitting that when the Wii-U price drop happened there was no compensation for early adopters. AND, and this IS a big AND, the Wii-U price drop that DIDN'T result in compensation was for the same model with the same accessories that the early adopters had.
What I really want to make clear here however is this; THERE HASN'T ACTUALLY BEEN A PRICE DROP ON THE XBOX ONE!!!! That is what is driving me batty over this. They simply, finally relented and released a version without the Kinect so that they could compete more directly with the PS4. So WHY would ANYONE expect something that almost never happens anyway and IS associated with an ACTUAL PRICE DROP?
