ROFL Bets suggestion EVARRRRR... Android .Net :)
Miguel de Icaza on Twitter suggested Google go with .Net now that it looks like Dalvik will likely be eviscerated from Android.
This is of course is situational amusement. The suggestion is actually a fantastic one. I just don't see it happening for political reasons.
I haven't seen as many Google and Microsoft childish fits over the past few months. But I also doubt the two are on friendly terms at the moment, and in a world where Google is still refusing to develop for Microsoft platforms and is blocking Microsoft apps from Google services, it seems incredibly unlikely that Google would adopt a runtime engineered by Microsoft.
Or course, it would also be amusing if Google did make the switch, as it would be possible that in short order the most popular .Net platform might be one Microsoft doesn't own. So, Google could look at it as a chance to rub their success in Microsoft's nose.
The other reason I don't see it happening though, is the alternate runtime I mentioned in my past post. Google's switch to pre-compiled binaries. Not to say that they couldn't backtrack on that one. It might annoy a few as there are advantages to pre-compiled binaries, such as performance. But they have clearly already been working on something. And since that something is compiled, it is certainly not .Net.
In my last post I said I might go Android if they wrote their own language and SDK from scratch. I would revise to me definitely going Android if they adopted .Net. From a development standpoint, Google is more open in some respects that are certainly important for me.
