Todo App
Lets see how long this lasts :)
I cancelled my developer account for Windows Phone, but I still have a bit of time before it elapses. All I know is it is still active as I was able to developer unlock my new phone just and I think the account is active for maybe another couple months.
With Windows Phone 8 just released, and me having just picked up a nice new HTC 8X I went perusing the store and found almost no WP8 specific apps. Especially disappointing is a lack of apps utilizing the new functionality. Not really surprising. If you followed my rants that lead up to me cancelling my subscription you'll know that Microsoft didn't release the SDK until after they released the OS. A stark contrast to both their past and their competitors. On any other platform, including WP7 the SDK would've been out for month before the launch.
Anyway, I know that WP8 is a little different from WP7 on the dev side. Also, there are completely new sets of functionality. So I wanted to see if I would be able to develop an app that takes advantage of these new features and get it posted in the store before my developer subscription expires.
Some of the new features I'm interested in are the new lock screen capabilities (aka Live Apps) and the new SDK's for voice. These are a perfect fit for what is a simple mainstay app for any platform. A To Do list app.
Now, I want to make something actually useful (above and beyond the Live App and voice dictation functionality, which I think would be great features) so it won't be a simple 1 dimensional To Do application. I want the ability to manage multiple task lists, pinning a specific task list to the start screen, optional tasks, repeatable tasks and the likes.
I have a very poor attention span, so who knows, this may fizzle out quickly. But this seems like a fun little challenge for myself. Not really like learning a whole new programming language, but the app will actually fill a void in my app list if I see it through.
