Updates
In my usual fashion I have started changing everything in my environment. Getting my persnal coding back up and running may take a while. Moved my main dev laptop to TV as it was the one with HDMI and it was the one that was actually portable. Thus it made more sense for that one to live in the living room. This means the XPS is now back in the office and will become the defacto development machine until such time as someone finally produces a tablet with an operating system I can both tolerate having on a tablet and which can handle my dev needs (looking at you Microsoft and your hardware partners with Windows 8 for this one) also of course assuming the now 3+ year old laptop holds out that long.
Work code is... Moving again. The past 2 weeks have been slow. Unbearably slow. With me coming up with things to do on my own. Normally that might not be such a bad thing except that I cannot really add super tangible things to the product as the developer. Everyone with authority in that area was firstly spending time on the road and then secondly cooling down after that, and I started running out of things to do pretty much smack in the middle of the roadshows they were all attending. More of my personal terrible timing. Anyway managed to find small things to pad out the time.
All in all should have been a good time for my side projects, but the reality is that my summers are packed enough sometimes that I don't find that time even when work isn't satisfying my code appetite.
Anyway in addition to having some new tasks on my plate, the week holds potential for product planning. One of new favorite things in this industry is having a chance to be involved in more aspects of the life of our products. Not sure how I managed to impress them enough to get my foot in that door, but certainly thankful I did. Now watch them leave me out of those talks. Fingers crossed.
