New phone, new plans.
Well, vacation means a lot of time to left to myself to think even if I'm not able to be in front of a computer for the bulk of it. A lot of time to think means I eventually breakdown and do something I'm excited about. This time it was replacing my old phone. My old blackberry was getting damaged and old, the battery life was at a point where it was comparable to smart phones, and while I loved it, it was now lacking.
So, I bought one of the new Windows Phone 7 devices. I still need to finish my applications for Veronica first or more likely in parallel, even if she doesn't think she needs them, I really want to upgrade her software with something better. When I get around to it, one of my favorite joke apps is the Magic 8-Ball. I know there are probably already tons of these out there, so it is really an app for myself to practice developing with the phone. Idea is to make the most out of it. Then I will check the Marketplace, and if I find an app with the same level of functionality as mine I will put it up for free, otherwise I may try to make something off of it.
Features I want to add are:
- Use the accelerometer in the phone for shaking the 8-Ball.
- Enable custom response lists allowing the user to mix and match which responses the 8-Ball will choose from.
- Add an optional text bar to enter your questions and have the application capable of remembering the 8-Balls response.
- Use the panoramic view with at least 3 tiles, one for the ball, one for settings and one for history.
- Make use of pivot grids in there somehow, pivoting a magic 8-ball isn't really all that exciting, but it is a cool feature of the phone and I would like to use it.
- Perhaps use the Location awareness of the phone combined with a behind the scenes web search to generate at least one list of responses somehow tied to the users current location (pretty terrible idea, but the idea is to make use of as much of what the phone offers as possible).
- Have a configurable background (integrate with images in the devices memory/camera).
