Visual Studio 2010
Well I got Visual Studio 2010 Express last night and put it on my computer to try it out, since has more features aimed at Silverlight than prior versions. I must say, I don't like the new UI. Fortunately they resolved a few of my earlier issues with the product. For instance, one that was annoying to me was that the Auto Completion didn't start in a "using" directive until after you had typed in up to the first period in the assembly name... since this is the usually the company or product name it was also typically the largest part of the name and the most likely part to screw up and in some cases the only part you need to type in. Thankfully in VS 2010, this "works". I'll note that SharpDevelop already did this, though SharpDevelop's auto completion is almost going overboard for me.
Anyway, the new designer, looks a hell of a lot like the old designer. Maybe it isn't a new one after all. I know that VS 2008 didn't come with any out of the box and I had to install an SDK to get it, so maybe I've been using the same one all along. So at the moment, not sure which IDE I like more. SharpDevelop has more functionality for free than VS2010 Express, but I also haven't seen what VS2010 has to offer. Thankfully, SharpDevelop solutions are fully compatible with Visual Studio, so I will give VS 2010 a bit of a test run and then decide.
Alex.
